I’ve loved art my entire life. There’s just something about being able to create something that is yours. And with art, there are no explanations. You can make it and it can be considered art. Using your imagination to take you to places that are untouched. An escape. I loved art throughout grade school and even went to Herron School of Art & Design for a couple of years in college. My dad was an art major, then art teacher. Maybe it runs in my blood. But when you create something, you feel a sense of pride knowing that you created it. No one else. And while art can be full of critiques and criticism, we should all feel free to create what we love without fear of that.
Another thing I’ve learned in the past year is that God has made us ALL to be creative in some form. He is the Creator of all and we are made in His image. Hard to argue with that! We may not all draw or paint or that sort of thing. Which, those are typically what I think when I hear “creative”, but if you woodwork, build websites, teach, run a business, are a mom at home with kids. All of us can come up with new ideas and have fantastic ideas. Use it for Him and he will bless it!
I was asked to join and serve on the creative team at my church about a year ago. It has been an incredible thing to be a part of. It has opened my eyes to the creative talents God has given to me. I used to always pray and ask God to show me the gifts I can use for Him, only to feel like I didn’t have any gifts. I mean, I knew I had them, but I wasn’t sure what they were. It was frustrating. So now, being a part of a creative team that is truly incredible is just such an answered prayer.
We have been doing a 100 Day Creative Challenge and it’s been a lot of fun so far! You can follow everyone’s posts on our Pinterest page. I like the diversity. I like being inspired by others in the group. I like that this is pushing me to try new things. And it’s all for His glory.
